30 Rock.....well not exactly
Looks like NBC did a special tonight with SNL. So I watched that because it was the only thing on and I did not know what to do. SNL is not good at all anymore. This thing tonight was some Gilly chick doing stuff and it was so dumb. I really do not like any of the cast members and the only thing that was good tonight was the fact they played a lot of old skits. I love towards the end when they did the "Schweaty Balls" skit with Alec Baldwin. So I got a little 30 Rock-esque type of stuff in there tonight. I really liked Steve Martins "What I would wish for Christmas". He wanted so have an orgasm for a month and help the children with his last wish....pretty awesome. Still, SNL is no good anymore and Keanan from Keanan and Kel is on there.....REALLY? Very dumb but all the old stuff is great. Will Ferrell skis were on there, basically him singing Christmas songs. This one I loved where he was on a spinning circle and singing some Christmas song and it kept getting faster and I knew he was going to get sick. Then he started puking everywhere, I thought it was great. So all in all the show was good tonight because of all the old but this Gilly hosted and she sucked. I know she is a character but that character sucks. Seriously I wonder how this show still exists without having any talent on it amymore.

I agree with you this show just isn't the same anymore and the people that they have on it just aren't at the same level of talent of the old shows, but it was nice to see old skits.
ReplyDeleteYeah, who the f!@# is Gilly? Seriously? It's like them trying to create another Mary-katherine Gallagher (Molly Shannon). I didn't find her that funny at all. I also loved that will ferrell skit haha, he never ceases to amaze me with his antics. And yes, Gilly sucks. Amen. RIP SNL, seems like you've lost your touch.
ReplyDeleteLorne Michaels has moved on from SNL it seems and only focuses on 30 Rock. The show can't be long for this world. I honestly can't remember the last time I watched it on purpose and not just channel surfing. That show will be missed, just not in its current guise.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I loved SNL back in the day I have also lost faith in it. I just feel that they are going for a cheap laugh nowadays and honestly the last times I have really laughed at a skit was because of the guest host (like Justin Timberlake, Tom Hanks, and even Taylor Launter). I really hope the show can regain its prestige it had in the old days.
ReplyDeleteOne of the great things about SNL (and its audienceS) is that at some point, everyone thinks it sucks, it's gone, all the talent moves on, it used to be so great, etc. etc. And then it comes back! Also, now with all the different delivery platforms, you can catch it channel surfing, or just watch bits, rather than "watching on purpose." Different levels of engagement are the norm now.
ReplyDeleteAnd I like Kristen Wiig better than Molly Shannon, but Gilly was a bit of a stretch.
The funny part about this and most of the other blog post in this nature is that we all think SNL sucks now. But I talked to my 16 year old sister and she loves the show. She thinks Jimmy Falon is the greatest, and all I could do was laugh in her face. It was more entertaining for me to watch my sister laugh at this SNL episode than it was for me to watch the episode myself.
